Exhibition: S333 Architecture + Urbanism

...on the urban designing of architecture

Design:2006

Program: travelling exhibition

Budget: 75 000 Euros

The exhibition is a 10 year retrospective for S333 Architecture and Urbanism. I was project manager for the exhibition while employed by S333.

The starting point for the design was to present the work of the office in an ‘urban’ strategy descriptive of the ideology of the office that could travel to three international cities to be exhibited.

I archived and researched the work of S333 while engaging in a series of meetings between with the four partners of S333 to arrive at the final exhibition design. The exhibition is designed to showcase 11 projects, which are a combination of built work, urbanism, and research.

All works are given the same authority in the room while remaining distinct and autonomous projects. This enforces S333 ideology on urbanism, which is a pluralistic approach; urbanism as an idea is global, but the practice of it is a very specific and localized endeavor. This stance is reflected by the hiring strategy of the office, which draws from an international staff to bring a diversity of ideas and experiences to the work. Each project showcases a combination of models, media, graphics, and documentation that as a whole produce an assembly of multi-scalar urbanisms.

The exhibition format is flexible; allowing the arrangement of the stands to cluster according the layout of the gallery it travels too.
